I REALLY COMMEND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ON HAVING MORE OF A LONGER TERM STRATEGY AND ACCESSING THIS FUNDING FROM CMHC AND SEEING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO FIND SORT OF AN ECONOMY OF SCALE AND TO FIND SOME EFFICIENCIES BY IDENTIFYING LOTS THAT ARE CLOSE TOGETHER THAT THE SITE PREPARATION CAN BE DONE AROUND THE SAME TIME TO SAVE COSTS, AND I KNOW THAT WE DO HAVE A HUGE DEMAND IN YELLOWKNIFE, AND I'M SURE THAT THERE'S A LONG WAITING LIST FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF FAMILIES THAT ARE REALLY IN NEED OF THESE HOMES.
WE'RE A TOWN WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH A LOT OF PRIVILEGE AND OPPORTUNITIES.
AND I THINK WE NEED TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO SHARE THAT AND WITH NEIGHBORS AND ENCOURAGE ANY OPPORTUNITIES WE CAN FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
AND I THINK THIS IS A NONPROFIT THAT'S WORKING REALLY HARD TO, THROUGH THEIR OWN SWEAT

I ALSO AM OF THE BELIEF THAT, YOU KNOW, THE PEOPLE THAT WOULD LIKELY BE LIVING IN THIS ARE PROBABLY THE PEOPLE THAT WERE HIT THE HARDEST DURING THE PANDEMIC, AND, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT WERE ASSOCIATED WITH THAT WHEN IT COMES TO EMPLOYMENT AND WHATNOT, GENERALLY, THE LOWER RUNGS OF SOCIETY WERE THE ONES THAT PAID THE BIGGEST PRICE.
SO CERTAINLY ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO SUPPORT THOSE FAMILIES.
THE OTHER THING, TOO, IS JUST THAT, YOU KNOW, HAVING AN ORGANIZATION SUCH AS HABITAT DOING SUCH GREAT WORK FOR RESIDENTS OF YELLOWKNIFE AND THE TERRITORY GREATER, CERTAINLY LIKE TO SUPPORT THAT.
AND YOU KNOW, LIKE YOU GOT TO MAKE HAY WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING, YOU KNOW, AND IF THE FUNDING IS THERE WITH CMHC AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WANTS TO INVEST IN OUR CITY AND OUR TERRITORY, AND THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO SUCH A THING, THEN I'M IN SUPPORT OF SUPPORTING THE FOUR LOTS AND I WILL BE NOT IN SUPPORT OF THE AMENDMENT.
