WE ALSO LIKE TO TYPICALLY PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF ADMINISTRATIONS, HIGH-LEVEL WORK PLAN FOR THE YEAR AHEAD EACH JANUARY.
ON COUNCIL'S GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, WE'RE REALLY PROUD THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF PROGRESS MADE ACROSS ALL FRONTS.
AS WE HEAD INTO THE FINAL YEAR FOR THESE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, ADMINISTRATION REALLY APPRECIATES HEARING FROM COUNCIL MEMBERS ON TOP PRIORITIES THAT YOU WANT TO SEE ACHIEVED BEFORE THE END OF 2022.
ON A RELATED NOTE, WE WERE REALLY PLEASED TO TAKE STOCK OF THE HIGH-LEVEL PROGRESS THAT HAS BEEN MADE.
SOME OF THOSE ACHIEVEMENTS ARE DOCUMENTED AS WE ARE HEADING INTO COUNCIL'S FOURTH YEAR.
AS WE LOOK AT THE WORK PLAN, I HAVE TO REALLY PUT A LITTLE BIT OF A FRAME AROUND THIS.
THE PRESSURES THAT COVID HAS PLACED ON THE CITY HAVE BEEN ENORMOUS.
IT'S NO SURPRISE TO COUNCILORS.
WE'VE HAD TO THINK THROUGH EVERY PROGRAM AND SERVICE DESIGN AND DELIVERY OPTION.
WE'RE STILL VERY PLEASED AND PROUD OF THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE.
BUT WE KNOW EVEN RIGHT NOW, FOR EXAMPLE, AS THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETS EVERY MORNING TO ASSESS IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT WE NEED TO DO TO TRIAGE OUR RESOURCES TO SUPPORT CORE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES, WE KNOW THAT THE WORK PLAN FOR 2022 IS AMBITIOUS.
WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE APPROACH THIS IN A WAY THAT'S GOING TO BE ACHIEVABLE.
WE KNOW THE PACE OF 2021 IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.
WE DO SEE THAT THERE'S A MASSIVE WORKLOAD HEAD, SO WE WILL BE SEEKING TO PACE OURSELVES.
WE KNOW THAT BIG THINGS LIKE THE AQUATIC CENTER OR THE WATER SUBMARINE LINE, THE PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE TO IMPLEMENT AS PART OF OUR WATER LICENSE, AS WELL AS THE ONGOING QUALITY OF LIFE PROGRAMS ARE THINGS THAT WE'RE SEEKING TO BALANCE OUT.
WE OF COURSE, WILL BE KEEPING YOU VERY APPRISED AS WE GO THROUGHOUT IF THERE ARE ANY ISSUES IN MEETING THE HIGH STANDARDS THAT YOU'VE COME TO APPRECIATE.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE ENGAGED WITH A HIGH-LEVEL STEERING COMMITTEE, WE HAVE A TECHNICAL COMMITTEE AS WELL.
THERE'S A LOT OF WORK THAT WILL REQUIRE ADMINISTRATIONS INPUT FROM A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT AREAS.
LIKEWISE, THE WATER SUBMARINE LINE, THIS IS RAMPING UP NOW, THERE'S A LOT OF TECHNICAL PRESSURE ON US AROUND THAT.
BUT OF COURSE, THIS IS OUR PROJECT AND WE KNOW FROM ALL THE WORK WE DO WHERE WE HAVE CONSULTANTS AND CONTRACTORS, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE CONTINUING TO ENSURE THAT BROAD DIRECTION, WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE WORKING IN THE INTERESTS OF THE CITY, SO IT TAKES AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF OVERSIGHT THAT WE CAN'T NECESSARILY OUTSOURCE OR PUT ON THE BACKROOM.
THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SLOWED DOWN BY COVID CLEARLY AS WE LOOK AT THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR COUNCIL AND SO MUCH AROUND CREATING A ROBUST AND DIVERSIFIED TOURISM SECTOR.
A LOT OF WORK THERE HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK MAKING GOOD PROGRESS.
