THE CITY, ALONG WITH CANADA, GNWT, YKDFN, NORTH SLAVE METIS AND ALTERNATIVES NORTH, HAS BEEN A STRONG ADVOCATE FOR THE SAFE REMEDIATION OF THE GIANT MINE, WHICH OF COURSE IS WITHIN OUR MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES, SO WE HAVE A LOT OF SKIN IN THE GAME ON THIS ONE. RECENT WORKLOAD HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANT, AND SO CITY STAFF HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A LOT OF THINGS BETWEEN THE WATER LICENSE HEARINGS, THE FINALIZATION OF NEGOTIATIONS OF THE OUTSTANDING MUNICIPAL SERVICES AGREEMENT, WHICH ENSURES THAT OUR FIRST RESPONDERS ARE ABLE TO TO PROVIDE RESPONSES TO THE TIMELINE REMEDIATION PROJECT AS NEEDED. WE'VE ALSO HAD WASTE MANAGEMENT CONSIDERATIONS THAT WE'VE BEEN DISCUSSING IN GREAT DETAIL. WE HAVE FINITE CAPACITY WITHIN CITY ADMINISTRATION AND SO AT THIS TIME WE ARE RECOMMENDING THAT THE FOCUS OF OUR WORK ON GMRP, THE GIANT MINE REMEDIATION PROJECT, SHOULD BE ON ENSURING THAT YELLOWKNIFE AND THE REGION GET THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM THE CLEANUP OF GIANT THROUGH PROCUREMENT, THROUGH TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS AND OF COURSE, ALSO WITH SOCIAL IMPACT MITIGATION.
